Potomac Avenue is approximately 7,400 LF of 4-lane divided roadway located in the Potomac Yard Development in the City of Alexandria. The project included a 14’ multi-use trail system, seven (7) underground BMP facilities and converted an existing railroad bridge into an urban deck for use by vehicles, pedestrians and included landscaping over Four-Mile Run. The design provided a parallel roadway network to connect Alexandria with Arlington County and to facilitate local traffic without using Route 1 and improving operational LOS on Route 1. The client also requested J2E to prepare a concept through an offsite location that would allow for an interim improvement with the ability to expand at minimal costs in the future, excluding right of way costs.
J2E provided roadway design, landscape and lighting plans, development of a complex urban drainage system for the bridge, structural modifications and provided support to the Pulte with construction administration.
